Inspect with the drawer open and closed
Look beneath the intended mounting point and locate the drawer box, slides, rear apron, and supporting frame. A clamp can clear a closed drawer but still obstruct it while it moves. Record both conditions.
Photograph the underside with a ruler and mark the intended contact area. Check for uneven surfaces or an edge profile that prevents the mount's pads from seating as specified. A thickness measurement alone will miss those problems.
Compare with the installation drawing
The relevant dimensions include how far the lower part of the clamp reaches under the desk and the space needed to tighten it. A drawing of the assembled arm viewed from above may not show either. Find the installation manual for the exact model.
If a drawer blocks access, moving the base sideways might change the situation. But the new position must still support the intended screen layout and meet the desk and mount requirements. Do not remove structural components or alter attachment hardware to make an unconfirmed fit work.
Keep alternatives measurable
An approved grommet mount could be an option where a suitable opening and clear underside exist. A freestanding solution could be another where its footprint and support needs are acceptable. Neither is automatically compatible because it avoids one obstruction.
Use the same screen-position drawing for every candidate. Reject a candidate if you cannot establish its attachment dimensions or if it blocks a drawer you rely on. Keeping the existing monitor stand is a reasonable outcome when the desk does not offer a confirmed mounting location.
